LG X110 Netbook
16th January 2009 (tag:General)
These days, small is big. And in this ever changing world with the hunger for information on the go, this isn't a bad thing. LG has come up with a stunner yet again, with the launch of the X110 netbook.
After bringing it out and about to face the grind of the daily life, it has to be said, this is particularly one of the best value-for-money netbooks around today. The build quality is superb and comes in glossy white. Opening the lid reveals a white keyboard which is surrounded by a silver case around the keyboard and the screen. You might find it surprisingly nice to use, even for those with large hands.
The X110 sports a 10-inch screen with 1024 x 600 pixels and weighs just a little over 1kg; 1.19kg to be exact. This is small enough to carry easily in any bag without knowing its even there.
LG has thrown in Windows XP Home as standard and is coupled with a 160GB hard drive. On the hardware side, there are 3 USB ports, a VGA out port, Ethernet connector, flash card reader for SD and Memory Stick formats, and headphones and microphone connectors. For those who like to see who they are chatting with, the X110 also comes with a 1.3 megapixel webcam for video calling.
What makes the X110 stand out however, is the inclusion of a SIM card slot for your broadband surfing needs. Simply insert your 3G enabled SIM, and you're good to go, anytime and any place, without the need to rely too much on Wifi spots. (However, make sure that you subscribe to a broadband package to enjoy the benefits). Wi-Fi also comes as standard in case you might prefer to conserve those precious gigabytes and Bluetooth is also available too. Having spent some time with the X110, surfing with either wifi or 3G lasted about 3 hours, which is quite reasonable for its battery life.
Sound quality wise, the speakers are one of the loudest at full volume. Quite a shocker for a device this small. But then, with the location being on the underside of the casing, there might be a reason for this.
On the downside, there are some minor issues which you may need to consider, most prominent of all being the lack of an optical drive. This might be a deal breaker for some.
Overall, this is a superb little computer and will satisfy any users out there. Give the LG X110 a go, it might surprise you.
